"Just over three years ago I began my journey with ACAD as a sessional staff member. I was at College working on an Intermediate 2 Health and Social Care course at this time. On completion of the course I began working for the company full time. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and the way every day was different. I realised quickly that this was the area I wanted to work and make my career, so I returned to college to undertake my HNC Social Care. The company fully supported me in this, allowing me to work full time and attend college. I soon had my HNC and had undertaken many courses through ACAD, varying from First Aid, to Family Therapy and many many more.

I had been working on the team as a child care team member when the managers position at the house became vacant, my manager advised that I was capable and should put myself forward. I was delighted when I was given the opportunity to manage the team. This was an opportunity that I never believed possible. My adventure continues, I have done many more courses and have now completed my Registered Managers Award through the company. I have been supported and have felt valued by everyone within the company throughout my journey."

"As a new member of staff I was both nervous and apprehensive when starting, all of these worries and concerns were soon put aside on my first shift. The team were friendly and re-assuring and I soon fell into the swing of things and felt part of the team.

When I first walked into the house I would be working in, I was struck by the warm and homely feel that immediately surrounded me.

After deciding my career path was residential childcare I started to research the numerous companies in my area. I had attended information days for some of these other companies and when invited to ACAD's information day, I only really attended to get my hands on an application form. During the day various ACAD employee's spoke including Cath Atkin. This day was a total contrast to what I had experienced before and I realised that these people weren't speaking for the sake of it. I seen passion in what they were talking about and wanted to be part of the drive and enthusiasm they had show throughout the day.

I enjoy working with young people and seeing the changes and potential that they make for themselves and helping them to realise that it’s they’re hard work that has achieved this."

"I have been working for Applied Care & Development for 10 months, I feel that it is a joy to work for the company, it also has a friendly atmosphere, and the staff are very helpful and supportive. When I first came to work for the company, I thought it was a small place to work for. How wrong I was, it’s like the Tardis, small on the outside but bigger on the inside… lot more going on than meets the eye.

Education and Training is not only for the Children and Young People but also for the staff.
