Broad General Education
Up to the end of Third Year, our young people engage with the Broad General Education (BGE), after which they move into the Senior Phase.
Within the BGE Curriculum, our young people have a full entitlement across all eight curriculum areas.
Our young people benefit from Interdisciplinary Learning opportunities, where connections are made to learning in different contexts and areas, compared to more traditional, subject-based learning.
Senior Phase
The Senior Phase curriculum focuses on our young people’s diverse skills, interests and needs. The curriculum is individualised, with the young person’s wishes and needs carefully considered, to ensure that they can achieve and attain, and work towards their goals and next steps. The curriculum is organised in line with the Qualifications Scotland (QS) and ASDAN courses, such as:
- National Qualifications (NQs), including English and Literacy, and Maths and Numeracy
- Personal Development Awards (PDAs)
- Animal Care, Sports and Fitness and Gardening (ASDAN)
Wider Achievement
At Netherlea School, we recognise that skills for learning, life and work come from a wide range of activities. Therefore, we offer a range of qualifications that have been designed to recognise wider achievement.
These provide learners with:
- A variety of skills
- Development of their confidence, independent thinking and positive attitudes
- Opportunities to be successful in learning contexts, including outside of school
- Participate positively in the wider community
