Broad General Education Curriculum

From Primary 7 to the end of S3, our young people engage in the Broad General Education (BGE), after which they transition to the Senior Phase.

Within the BGE Curriculum, our pupils have a full entitlement across all eight curriculum areas.

Our young people within the BGE phase enjoy interdisciplinary learning (IDL), where connections will be made to learning in different contexts and areas and more traditional subject-based learning.

Senior Phase Education Curriculum

The senior phase curriculum takes into account the fact our young people have diverse skills, interests and needs. Their wide range of levels and ability means that the curriculum has been carefully considered to ensure that each young person can attain and reach their potential. The curriculum has been organised in line with the SQA and ASDAN courses and includes

  • National Qualifications (NQs)
  • Personal Development Awards (PDAs)
  • IDEA – Inspiring Digital Enterprise Awards
  • John Muir Awards
  • ASDAN Qualifications

Wider Achievement

At Netherlea we recognise that life and work skills come from a wide range of activities. Therefore, we offer a range of qualifications that have been designed to recognise wider achievement.

They provide learners with opportunities:

  • A variety of skills
  • Develop their confidence, independent thinking and positive attitudes.
  • To be successful in learning contexts other than school.
  • Participate positively in the wider community.

Within the BGE, and senior phase all young people will take part in the John Muir Award at an appropriate level (Discovery or Explorer)

Duke of Edinburgh is offered also currently offered at Bronze level.

Current ASDAN subjects offered are Sport, Performing Arts, and Animal Care.
